日本自來水的飲用品質備受推崇,但近年來黴味逐漸成為問題,這種黴味已知是由 2-二甲基冰片 (2–methylisoborneol) 及 diosmin 所造成。
這些化合物的氣味閾值約為 10 ppt,無法透過氣相層析質譜儀 (GC/MS) 直接檢測,如同飲用水的檢測方法一節所述,在 GC/MS 量測之前,必須使用吹掃捕集法進行濃縮。
